Speaker: Michael J. Gelfand, Gelfand & Arpe, PA
The purchase, sale and ownership of condominiums have taken on new concerns and obligations as a result of the 2021 collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside near Miami Beach. Mr. Gelfand will discuss legislation passed to address these challenges including new milestone inspections, reserve studies and requirements for setting aside sufficient funds to pay for maintenance and repairs.
Mr. GELFAND is dual Florida Bar Board Certified in Real Estate Law and in Condominium and Planned Development Law, was elected to serve on The Florida Bar’s Board of Governors and chaired the Bar’s Professional Ethics Committee. Managing shareholder of Gelfand & Arpe in West Palm Beach, his practice emphasizes community association law, serving also as an expert witness, an arbitrator and mediator (certified circuit court and county court). Michael is a Past Chair of The Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section; a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians; and, a fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
