Business Email Compromise & Ransomware

SPEAKER: Andy Sekela, Special Agent, Private Sector Coordinator, Federal Bureau of Investigation - Tampa

Business Email Compromise (BEC) is one of the biggest financial fraud threats facing people across the country.  BEC is especially prevalent in Central Florida.  This presentation defines and explains BEC and provides an overview of the various types of BEC schemes.  It covers how to detect such schemes (and thus how to prevent you or your company from becoming a victim) and what to do if you become a victim.

There has been a significant increase in the number of ransomware attacks since the pandemic started.  Ransomware actors are becoming increasingly sophisticated in terms of how they carry out their attacks.  This presentation discusses two specific types of ransomware, and includes best practices to help protect yourself from a ransomware attack as well as actions you can take if you do become a victim.
