Message from the President

By Patricia A. Nugent, President, Florida ARECS

I hope you and your family enjoyed a safe and happy holiday season.

2018 was a significant year for Florida ARECS in two notable areas – Realtor® Relations and Leadership Development.

Realtor® Relations

Building positive relationships with Realtors® is one of our highest strategic priorities and we continue to address this objective on multiple fronts:

  • Law Symposiums are now regularly offered in Broward, Central Florida and Palm Beach and will soon be expanded to St. Lucie County. The Standardized Law Symposium library of programs currently in development will enable us to expand Law Symposiums to other areas.
  • The Realtor® Education Library was updated and contains a wide array of ready-to-use programs that members can present to real estate agents in their area.
  • The Annual Florida ARECS Leadership Forum hosted a panel discussion entitled Building Successful Relationships with Your Local Real Estate Association that featured leaders of local Realtor® Associations and the REC leaders who partner with them. It was so energizing to hear how they are working together to benefit their members.  If you missed it, you can listen to Fund General Counsel Melissa Murphy’s podcast on the topic by visiting the Real Estate Professional section of the Florida ARECS website http://flarecs.com/real-estate-professional.
  • At the Florida Realtors® Convention, REC Members from around the state staffed the booth and networked with over 4,000 real estate agents. While there we met the leaders of two new Realtor® Associations and we look forward to working with them this year.
  • Our Florida Realtors® Legal News Advertising Campaign promotes the use of attorneys in real estate transactions and has already generated thousands of new visits to www.flarecs.com as well as relationships with new Realtor® Associations. If you would like your article featured in the Florida Realtors® Legal News, an email newsletter that is distributed to over 105,000 real estate agents, please contact Rene’ Rutan at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Finally, Social Media remains a vital element of our marketing plan. We communicate regularly on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, posting and commenting on issues of interest to real estate attorneys, real estate agents and consumers.  Help us share the message of the benefits of using a real estate attorney in a real estate transaction by following us at… Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.

Leadership Development

Leadership development is essential to every organization including our own.  We must identify a new generation of leaders to guide Florida ARECS into the future.  Erin Prete, a partner with Gasdick, Stanton, Early, P.A. joined us late last year.  And now we are proud to welcome Brian W. Hoffman to our Board of Directors.  Mr. Hoffman is a partner with Carver, Darden Koretzky, Tessier, Finn, Blossman & Areaux, L.L.C. in Pensacola and is Florida Bar Certified in Real Estate Law.  He is a member of the Executive Council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Title Insurance and Title Insurance Liaison Committee, Vice-Chair of the Real Estate Certification Review Course Committee and Vice-Chair of the Title Issues and Standards Committee.

We will be updating the Florida ARECS Leadership Guide to reflect these and other changes for 2019 so if your REC has recently held an election and has a new President, please be sure to contact Rene’ Rutan as soon as possible to ensure it is published with the most accurate information and your website is properly updated.  If you are not familiar with the Leadership Guide; it provides key information about Florida ARECS and each of the local RECs, as well as resources including sample governance documents, new member welcome letter and tax filing guidelines.  It is tax season so be sure to refer to this section of the Leadership Guide to if you need assistance handling this aspect of REC management.

Best wishes for healthy and prosperous New Year!
