January & February - Message from the Board

We hope you and your family enjoyed a safe and happy holiday season.

It's hard to believe it's 2017 and a year has passed since we published the first issue of Council Connections. We hope that the introduction of this newsletter has kept you “connected” to the Real Estate Council community since creating a community of real estate attorneys is at the heart of what we are trying to achieve. Our profession is confronted with many challenges including an ever-changing regulatory environment and a marketplace that does not always value the involvement of a real estate attorney. The RECs provide a vehicle for all of us to work together to address these challenges in way that each of us, acting alone, might not be able to accomplish.

As we grow to meet these challenges so must our leadership. We are very pleased to announce the addition of Ramona Chance of Gainesville, to the Florida ARECS Board of Directors. Chance is Fund Trustee for the Eighth Judicial Circuit, a licensed real estate broker and brings a considerable background in both residential and commercial practice. She will help the Board expand its geographical representation with her perspective from practicing in North Central Florida.

The Florida ARECS Board of Directors will hold their next meeting on February 24th in Orlando where we will engage in our now annual long range planning and a review of strategic objectives. We would love to hear from you! Please let us know which priorities you think Florida ARECS should focus on. Should it be leadership or membership development? What about Realtor® relations? Are there new programs you would like to see added to the Realtor® Education Library? Are there other services we could provide that would help your REC and its members become more successful? Please send your ideas to the REC Relations Manager at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by February 20th.

Florida ARECS is also in the process of finalizing a new Leadership Guide, which will be a reference source for REC leaders around the state. It will provide key information about Florida ARECS, each of the local RECs, sample governance documents and even tax filing guidelines. Included in the profile for each REC is the name of its President so if you have recently held an election and have a new President, please be sure to contact the REC Relations Manager as soon as possible to ensure the Leadership Guide is published with the most accurate information and your website is properly updated.
